In the beginning of the semester we visited Jim Lennons studio. This was the first time I've been in a professional studio and really got to see how everything worked for this particular photographer. I really enjoyed the layout of the studio and could picture myself having my own studio but that would be way in the future for me. During the studio visit Jim talked about the type of photography he was interested in as well as helpful tips on how he got to where he is today. Having your own studio is a big investment as well as the equipment you need to have. Having this opportunity to visit a studio and have that photographer speak with you was a great experience. I enjoy learning hands on and getting answers straight from the source. In the first room we walked into the first thing I noticed were the different color back drops he had hanging on the wall- as well as the mini dressing room for whom ever was being photographed that day. Towards the end of the class he asked if he wanted us to see him use one of the cameras he uses. One of my classmates Joe volunteered to be photographed, which then Jim told Joe to stand in front of the white back drop and placed the perfect lighting to cast on Joe's face. He took two photos and showed them to us. The two photos came out really good for something that wasn't planned and took less that 5 minutes. Seeing the finished product after seeing Jim set everything up really demonstrated the affects of lighting and how it can be such a key aspect to your photos. That also showed everything you don't see when creating a set to take that one picture or all the equipment it took to accomplish that one photo. I really enjoyed that studio visit and that visit gave me a lot more information then I had before.
